Statement from Board of Church and Society

Wisconsin Annual Conference

WHEREAS, "Homosexual persons no less than heterosexual persons are individuals of sacred worth," and therefore entitled to the opportunity of sharing their lives with a partner; and

WHEREAS, life-long relationships are difficult to maintain under any circumstances in today's world, and require a supportive community and a sense of spirituality to succeed; and

WHEREAS, long-term relationships generally benefit society:

THEREFORE, the Wisconsin Board of Church and Society supports those pastors and congregations who have conducted homosexual unions in the past, those who are working to change the Book of Discipline to again allow the celebration of such unions, and those pastors who, for reasons of conscience, are currently conducting such unions.
