I. IN RE: Request from the General Board of Discipleship on whether under ¶508 of the 1996 Discipline enabling legislation may be enacted by a General Conference to become effective after the ratification of a constitutional amendment proposed by the same General Conference.

II. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Northwest Texas Annual Conference related to a resolution adopted by the conference entitled "A Call to Doctrinal Integrity."

III. IN RE: Request from the Minnesota Annual Conference for a declaratory decision on whether ¶¶358.1b, 2623, and 2626.1 of the 1996 Discipline violate the Constitution when they define judicial process as beginning only with the referral of a complaint to the Committee on Investigation.

IV. IN RE: Review of the Sexual Misconduct Polity of the Minnesota Annual Conference.

V. IN RE: Review of the Policy on Sexual Ethics of the Kansas East Annual Conference.

VI. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Florida Annual Conference related to requirement that candidates must have completed one fourth of seminary before January 1, 1997, to qualify for conference relationship.

VII. IN RE: Appeal of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Northern Illinois Annual Conference relating to applicability of ¶304.5 of the 1996 Discipline to diaconal ministers making the transition to permanent deacons.

VIII. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Northern Illinois Annual Conference relating to legality of a Special Clergy Session of the Annual Conference.

IX. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Louisiana Annual Conference on the structure of the annual conference.

X. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the North Texas Annual Conference on the meaning of the word "avowed" in the phrase "self-avowed homosexual."

XI. IN RE: Request from the Holston Annual Conference on the constitutionality of the "Design for Ministry" restructure plan.

XIV. IN RE: Request from the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference for a declaratory decision on the constitutionality of the sentence "Ceremonies that celebrate homosexual unions shall not be conducted by our ministers and shall not be conducted in our churches." (¶65C of the 1996 Discipline)

XV. IN RE: Request from the California-Nevada Annual Conference for a declaratory decision on the constitutionality of the sentence "Ceremonies that celebrate homosexual unions shall not be conducted by our ministers and shall not be conducted in our churches." (¶65C of the 1996 Discipline)

XVI. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Virginia Annual Conference on the legality of adding to the qualifications for Lay Members of General Conference as outlined in ¶34 of the 1996 Discipline.

XVII. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the South Carolina Annual Conference concerning matters related to the process of investigation of a complaint against a clergy member.

XVIII. IN RE: Review of Bishop’s Decision of Law in the Norway Annual Conference on the legality of the annual conference structure and related matters.

XIX. IN RE: Review of the rewritten Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy of the North Alabama Annual Conference.

XX. IN RE: Review of the rewritten Sexual Ethics and Procedure Policy of the North Georgia Annual Conference.

All briefs must be received in writing by the secretary of the Judicial Council by September 10, 1998. Anyone wishing to submit a brief must send the original and 9 copies.

Any requests from interested parties for oral hearings must also be submitted in writing by September 10, 1998.
