Antiphonal Affirmation of Faith

By Drew Cottle

Taken from the traditional version of the Apostle's Creed, #881 in the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in God, creator of the universe and of Earth, creator of humanity and creator of Love.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
And in Jesus Christ, disturber, comforter and beacon,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
Who was brought into the world by extraordinary means,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified dead and buried;
suffered great pain in extraordinary circumstances;

the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
and was given an extraordinary place in history, and is with us to this day,

from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
to him we are accountable: in him we have an advocate.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
I believe that the living God is with us always,

the holy catholic church,
that the believers all over the world are brothers and sisters, no matter their name,

the communion of saints,
that those who have gone before have lessons to teach

the forgiveness of sins,
and that we have more than one opportunity to learn and grow,

the resurrection of the body,
that God is mercifully in control of human history, and will bring it to completion,

and the life everlasting.
and we will be in God's memory forever.
