Affirmation is an independent voice of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people and our supporters. We are an activist, all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that challenges The United Methodist Church to be inclusive, and radically speaks out against injustice for LGBTQ people around the world. Your tax-deductible donation makes Affirmation possible. Donate securely online or through the mail. Contributors of $35 or more will be considered members of Affirmation (unless they request otherwise) and will receive the newsletter.

Affirmation's Mission Statement: As an independent voice of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people, Affirmation radically reclaims the compassionate and transforming gospel of Jesus Christ by relentlessly pursuing full inclusion in the Church as we journey with the Spirit in creating God's beloved community. (Adopted January 2005)

Censored group photo

This photo of attendees at the 35th Anniversary gathering of
Affirmation in San Francisco in 2010 had to be altered, because
our church is still haunted by homophobia.

We've been at every General Conference, including the one in
1972, which began our official exile from the United Methodist
Church with its "incompatible" language. This was the Affirmation
office in 2008 in Fort Worth.
